JEDDAH, 16 March 2004 — Canada says it is making rapid strides in the IT sector. “Our production and export of IT, telecommunications, security and safety products and services have been increasing,” an official at the Canadian Embassy’s Commercial Section booth at the COMDEX IT exhibition said yesterday.
Canada has established leading positions in specialized markets such as graphics and multimedia, business intelligence, learnware, Internet tools, e-commerce and software for the wireless world. The country is represented by 10 IT companies sector at the annual event being held at the Jeddah International Exhibition Center, where Lab-Volt (Quebec) Ltd. is showcasing training programs for students in secondary, post-secondary and vocational technical schools. “These programs prepare students for a wide range of jobs in the growing field of IT, from basic skills in computer operation to network installation and troubleshooting,” the official told Arab News.
Voice Mobility Inc., based in British Columbia, which develops, markets and sells unified communications software, offers a “unique service,” an executive claimed. “Our solution gives end-users one number they can take anywhere in the world,” which will let them retrieve all their calls or faxes, no matter how many different phones, cell phones, faxes or pager numbers they have. They can retrieve all their voice or fax messages from any phone or any PC with an Internet connection. They can also redirect their faxes to any other fax number, print them on any printer, and can use their e-mail to redirect or forward their fax and voice messages to any other email address.
Ottawa-based Bajai company is an online access management software company whose software is designed to filter web access in the workplace, keeping unwanted content including offensive material out of the office. “We offer solutions which include laptops and e-mail filtering. Our technology is different from the other filters on the market because we have the ability to handle images and other forms of rich media in real time,” a company spokesman said.
Canada’s other participants include Bedford-based Trihedral Engineering Ltd., whose automation tools provide data manipulation to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime in plant operations, and British Columbia-based ACR Systems Inc., a world leader in design and manufacture of compact, self-powered data loggers. These precision electronic instruments and related software are used in a variety of industries to measure and record a broad range of parameters.
