JEDDAH, 17 March 2004 — Police in Jeddah have arrested more than 50 foreigners who were selling cell phones illegally on Palestine Street.

According to sources, demand for normal phones and prepaid SAWA cards increased which led to a black market among unlicensed sellers who usually sell products at lower prices than in licensed shops and outlets.

In a coordinated operation by the Passports Department, the police and the municipality, over 50 dealers were arrested and their wares seized.

Those arrested signed an agreement not to repeat their crime and acknowledged that if caught a second time, they would be jailed.
