NEW DELHI, 18 March 2004 — At least 18 dreaded extremists of the banned People’s War Group (PWG) and the Maoist Communist Center (MCC) were yesterday arrested during raids inside Dahoa forest area in Bihar’s Jamui district, police said. The extremists opened fire on seeing the policemen advancing toward them leading to an encounter. Some of the extremists who reportedly sustained injuries in the encounter managed to flee climbing atop the hillock while 18 of them were captured, the police said. Arms and ammunition besides Naxalite literature were recovered from them.
