RIYADH, 26 March 2004 — Foreign workers in Saudi Arabia remit some $16 billion a year to their home countries, according to a study released by the GCC secretariat for economic affairs. This is 60 percent of the $27 billion transferred by expatriates in GCC countries for the year 2002. The UAE makes up 16 percent with $4 billion a year, and Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain the remaining $7 billion.
