JEDDAH, 26 March 2004 — The heroics of Dante Calapatia and Bheng Cerbito lifted the Sadafco-Saudia Majestic bowling team over the Tipong Suave team in the final stepladder match and the coveted Inter-Company Bowling League title at the Jeddah Lanes Bowling Center. The league is organized by the Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Jeddah (FTBJ) through the leadership of its President Rene San Pedro.
The Sadafco-Saudia Majestic quintet beat the Tipong Sauve team in the showdown. Majestic posted a team series of 930 points against the Suave, who recorded team series of 837. Calapatia and Cerbito rolled 226 and 202.
For the Suave team, topscoring in the first match was Val Magsino with 205 followed by veteran Vhoi Ycong with 177 and Zaldy Parinas (172). And in the penultimate game, Majestic walloped anew Suave to post an 841 team series against 718 team series to bag the coveted title.
Calapatia led with 190 and Bheng Cerbito had 182. After two games, Sadafco-Saudia Majetic team keglers produced 1,903 pinfalls while Tipong Suave had 1,743 points.
The NPS lost to Tipong Suave in the third game of the stepladder finals and finished third. Emil Payongayong led the NPS team with 185.
Taking fourth were the keglers of Sunsilk Shampoo and Andy Erena had 184. Fatima Jintarat and Danny Bautista toppled 178 and 170 while Puri Parena and Rudy Punzalan pocketed 153 and 147. Sunsilk lost to Tipong Suave team 853-832.
The powerhouse Mizan/Salam Rice, beaten by Tipong Suave in the first match, placed fifth. Rally Zamora led Mizan/Salam Rice with 195. Igna Salgado had 175 Mar Cabrera and Edna Uy had 174 apiece.
Final Team Standings: Champion — Sadafco-Saudia Majestic, 2nd place — Tipong Suave, 3rd place — NPS, 4th place — Sunsilk Shampoo, 5th place — Mizan/Salam Rice, 6th place — Al-Nafie Steel Co., 7th place — defending Cee Bee Aviation, 8th place — Saudi Pearl Insurance, 9th place — Al-Zamil Heavy Industries, 10th place — Falcon III, 11th place — Malaysia Airlines and 12th place — Fully’s Team.
The awards night will be held today at the Sunset Hotel. The next conference for both the AFTBL and ICBL will commence on April 9, 2004. Registration is now open and teams may submit their line-ups to any FTBJ officers.
