RIYADH, 28 March 2004 — The Prince Salman Center for Disability Research (PSCDR) presented its genetics and birth defects database project at an international conference on genetics in Dubai recently.
Waleed Khaled Al-Deaigy, PSCDR public relations chief, said PSCDR also had an opportunity to exchange experience with leading scientists during the two-day conference.
“Taking part gave our researchers a better perspective on their work as well as on the nature of genetic diseases,” he said.
The National Genetics and Birth Defects Registry, a PSCDR project headed by Ahoud Al-Sulaiman, is being undertaken in collaboration with King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSH).
The aim is to compile a database of genetic disorders, birth defects and developmental disabilities in the Kingdom and make it available to healthcare providers in the Kingdom.
The PSCDR is a charitable organization which carries out and funds research to prevent disabilities, provide proper treatment and diagnosis, and promote early intervention.
