JEDDAH, 28 March 2004 — Maranao organizations in Jeddah are planning a cultural show to welcome the new Philippine consul general, Pendosina “Dino” Lomondot.
A meeting of representatives of the various groups will be held tomorrow, starting at 9:30 p.m. at the Tropicana Restaurant on Tahliah St., to discuss the holding of a “Kalilang Festival.”
Linogaranao Mapandi, a leader of the organizing groups Marawians International and Ranao Divers Club, said the Kalilang will be set on April 1, starting at 4:30 p.m., at the Philippine Consulate.
“Kalilang” is an indigenous musical extravaganza showcasing traditional poetry, music and dances.
“This is our way of expressing our full support and appreciation to the new consul who is dear to our hearts,” said Mapandi.
Lomondot, who was last assigned in Malaysia, is expected to arrive in Jeddah next week.
As vice consul in Jeddah in the early 1990s, Lomondot was said to have been instrumental in the smooth repatriation of Filipino overstayers in the Kingdom who have been granted full amnesty without fine.
