JEDDAH, 31 March 2004 — The welfare section of the Consulate General of Pakistan, Jeddah has successfully obtained a favorable decision from the Shariah court in Makkah in a 26-year-old blood money case of late Saeed ur-Rehman, son of Fateh ur-Rehman, of district Dir at Timergarah, who had died in a road accident in Makkah on Nov. 1, 1978.
This was the oldest blood money case which was being pursued by the Welfare Section in the court, according to Sohail Ali Khan, press attaché at the consulate. Legal heirs of the deceased appointed consul welfare as their attorney in September 2002. Previously they were pursuing the matter themselves which had complicated the case. Abdul Aziz Uqaili, community welfare attaché, pleaded their case forcefully.
The court decided the case in favor of the legal heirs. The blood money of SR40,000 was transferred to the legal heirs through the Pakistan Embassy on March 16.
