JEDDAH, 31 March 2004 — Education and employment opportunities are in focus at the four-day Middle East Education & Training Exhibition and Symposium (MEETES), which opened here yesterday.
The expo has a section exclusively for women students and professionals.
The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce & Industry, whose two-week forum for jobseekers and employers on its premises ends today, is focusing on education, training and employment at a four-day symposium alongside the exhibition.
An estimated 10,000 to 12,000 Saudi students travel abroad to seek higher education. “MEETES aims to provide information on various national and international education opportunities to the student community,” a spokesman for Al-Harithy Company for Exhibitions Ltd., which organizes the annual event, said.
There was a large turnout of students and parents at the Jeddah Exhibition Center following the formal inauguration by King Abdul Aziz University President Professor Osama ibn Sadik Tayeb.
Organizations involved in a symposium running alongside it are the General Organization for Technical Education and Vocational Training, the National Project for Training and Employment Human Resource Development Fund, the Khadeejah bint Khouwailid Center for Businesswomen, My Little House Group of Schools, Abdul Latif Jameel Programs for Community Service, the Arab Educational Training Center for Gulf States, and the Riyadh Armed Forces Hospital.
Two representatives from the German Academic Exchange Service, Dr. Christian Hulshorster and Professor Wolfgang Spyra, are here to give presentations on the study opportunities in German universities.
Australia, Canada, Egypt, France, India, Lebanon, Malaysia, Switzerland, the UAE, the UK and the US are also represented.
