JEDDAH, 31 March 2004 — A Jeddah courtroom was “covered in blood” after a 30-year-old Yemeni stabbed his wife and members of her family multiple times in front of the judge, according to local press reports.

Eyewitnesses told Al-Watan daily that Edah Al-Thakafi arrived in Court No. 3 at 10:30 a.m., followed by his Moroccan wife who was accompanied by members of her family.

Al-Thakafi’s wife, whose initials were given as S.B., had brought a complaint against her husband relating to their separation.

When the judge found for the wife, Al-Thakafi ran amok, pulling a knife he had concealed in his clothes and attacking the wife and her family. He then turned his rage on the judge, the paper said, but police intervened.
