JEDDAH, 9 April 2004 — In the 2nd week matches of Jeddah Cricket League’s Friday League, United Naghi LG beat Tamer. Red Sea Paints maintained its winning streak by beating Dabbagh. Deccan Blues prevailed over Attar. Al Sharief Shalimar overpowered Knoo Travel.
United Naghi LG Prevail Over Tamer: United Naghi LG set a target of 197 runs for victory. Tamer fell 14 runs short of victory. Talha (48) and Maqbool (43) started on a ferocious pace, hitting over 10 runs an over.
The partnership was broken by Anwar at 115 when Maqbool had his stumps uprooted by Anwar. Saleem Nahdi (41) and Talha took the score to 157.
Wajid contributed 25. United Naghi LG reached 197 runs for 7 wickets. Maroof (3 for 24) bowled good line and length. Sajid and Saleem had 2 scalps each for 35 and 41 runs respectively. Anwar also claimed 2 victims for 30 runs.
Tamer batsmen took up the challenge though they suffered early loss of Asif (06) and Afroz (11). Anwar scored 25 including a six. Saleem Patel took upon the bowling himself and United Naghi LG bowlers were dispatched to all corners of ground. Saleem Patel remained unbeaten with 81.
Osman hit a four and a six in his personal contribution of 17. Maroof (27) tried to hit out but was caught in the deep. Tamer reached 183 runs. Saleem Amoudi (2 for 20) was very economical. Waseem and Wajid had wicket apiece for 23 and 41 runs respectively.
Red Sea Paints Register an Easy Victory Against Dabbagh: Red Sea Paints posted challenging total of 177 runs. Dabbagh managed 149 runs in reply and lost the match by 28 runs. Liaqat (101) single handedly won the match for his team.
Liaqat lost his opening partner Shabbir (01) in the 1st over. After this early loss, he lofted six towering sixes, 2 of Sharzad, one each of Iqbal, Anees, Yaseen and Naseem. His partners supported him well by running doubles and trebles.
Kausar (22) stayed with Liaqat longest. Dabbagh defeated its own cause by giving away 35 extras. Red Sea reached 177. Imran (3 for 31) was the most successful bowler.
Anees claimed wicket of Kausar giving away 35 runs. Dabbagh needing almost 10 runs an over was always behind in run rate. Umair (24), Asgahr (31), Imran (25) were main contributors for Dabbagh. Dabbagh scored 149. A.Jabbar claimed 3 wickets in his 1st over. Hussain, Shabbir, Liaqat, Altaf and Akram claimed wicket apiece.
Deccan Blues Outplay Attar Travel: Deccan Blues, batting first, amassed 202 runs in its allotted overs. Attar Travel replied with 171.
Raziuddin (99 no) was the main architect of Deccan Blues’ mammoth tally. He hit 9 power-packed boundaries and 2 skyscrapers.
Attar Travel could not silence the blazing blade of Razi. A. Quddous scored 15 with the help of 2 fours. Rohan hit 4 boundaries in his knock of 23. Shabbir and Rehan contributed 14 & 18 respectively.
Deccan Blues reached 202 runs. Raees claimed 2 wickets for 27 runs. Moin, Nasrullah and Shameem had one wicket each.
Facing a daunting task, Attar Travel openers, Raees (54-6 fours) and Aman (19-2 fours) put up 70 runs for 1st wicket partnership.
Sadiq blasted 59 with the help of 7 fours and a six of 33 balls. After the departure of Sadiq, wickets started tumbling. Attar Travel reached 171 runs only.
A. Quddous grabbed 3 scalps for 20 runs only.
Al Sharief Shalimar Beat Kanoo Travel: Al Sharief Shalimar piled up 218 runs against Kanoo Travel. Kanoo Travel in reply, could only score 146.
Al Sharief Shalimar’s tally of 218 runs contains contributions of its openers; Naveed (25) and Tahir (38).
Zain (34) accelerated the tempo by his quick running between the wickets. Mubashir (68) hammered bowlers with complete control. He faced only 28 balls.
Rahat chipped in with 18. Rashid (2 for 41) withstood the onslaught. Younus bowled one over, gave away 20 runs but claimed wicket of Tahir.
Kanoo Travel batsmen were overwhelmed by Shalimar’s total. Younus (68) and Shameem (28) brought some respectability. Kanoo Travel scored 146 in its allotted over.
Younus demolished Kanoo Travel’s batting by claiming 4 scalps for 23 runs. Abbar had 2 scalps for 27 runs. Tahir (1 for 21) dismissed Arooj.
