JEDDAH, 9 April 2004 — Saudia Majestique, Talha Optics and Saudi General Insurance Co. (SGI) emerged victors in the third week matches of the Division II Friday League matches organized by the Jeddah Cricket League (JCL) last Friday.
Saudia Majestique Start With a Thriller: At Hempel Paint Grounds Saudia Majestique elected to bat first after winning the toss and piled up a total of 172 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs. Amjad made 48 runs, but his partners Zahid, Yousuf, Naeem fell cheaply.
He made a valuable 104 runs partnership with Zubair, who took charge of the attack and hit Nadir Toor bowlers to every corner of the ground and went on to score highest 72 runs for his team with the help of seven fours with singles and doubles combination to move the fielders with his smart running between the wickets, the remaining batsmen could not help their team as they fell like nine pins. Shadab Abbasi 3 for 30 and Nadeem 4 for 32 bowled well for Nadir Toor.
In reply, Nadir Toor were ina hurry and started well.
Murtuza scored 43 and Nadir Toor scored 18 off 18 balls. They made 63-run partnership. One-down Rizwan was unlucky to be run out for 19. Naveed made 26 runs.
The wrecker in chief was none other than the veteran left arm spin legend Saleem Boobat who took the rich haul of 5 for just 18 runs in his four overs. Zubair of Majestique impressed with his fielding abilities as he made two run outs and took a fine catch which handed Majestique a fine victory by 16 runs.
Talha Optics Run Through Publicis Graphics: At Attar grounds Talha Optics elected to bat first against Publicis Graphics and made a target of 177 for 9. Abdul Rehman made 38 runs and Adil also scored 19.
Arif Hashmi took three wickets, Ihthesham took two wickets while Rumi and Firoz took one wicket each for their team.
In reply, captain Arif Hashmi scored 20 but none of their other batsmen resisted the express bowling of Abdul Rehman who took a rich haul of 5 for 10 and Sayeed Mirza who took 3 for 8 while Imtiaz and Muneer took a wicket each and bundled out their opponents for a paltry 83 in 12.4 overs. Talha Optics won the match by 94 runs.
SGI Win Over International Indian School Jeddah: International Indian School Jeddah elected to bat. IISJ’S star batsman Amjad Majeedul Hassan played thru the innings and remained unbeaten on 39 runs whle his partner Joshi made a valuable 36 runs to take the score to 128 for 5. Shakeel took 2 for 15 while Misbah, Azeem and Mujeeb took one wicket each respectively.
In reply SGI’s Majid and Nisar scored 54 and 21 runs respectively and brought their team to victory stand in just 16.1 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. SGI won the match by 5 wickets. Joshi took 2 wickets for 40.
