JEDDAH, 11 April 2004 — The Anti-Beggary Department has arrested a 10-year-old who worked as a lookout for beggars, Al-Jazirah reported. Paid SR50 per hour, his job was to alert beggars of any government official or policemen. He used his mobile phone with a code that he sent to beggars. One ring meant there was an anti-beggary department official nearby. Two rings meant that danger was approaching. If he did not ring, it meant the coast was clear. The child was arrested as he was sending signals to beggars telling them about anti-beggary officials.
