RIYADH, 16 April 2004 — The competition for 5’8” below category of the Filipino Community Basketball League (FCBL) successfully commenced with Robert De Castro, John Brizuela and Edwin Tayag spearheading the Symex Trane Co. team of Coach Yulo Torion to victory against the Hapco Warriors of Michael Carulasan 75-60.
Robert De Castro led the score board and stat records of the Trane team with 34 big points, 16 rebounds and 3 steals and blocks apiece followed by John Brizuela, Edwin Tayag and Angel Fabro while Enrique Sodario, Michael Carulasan and the Balingbing Brothers (Dickson and Nante) piloted the Hapco Warriors.
Luzviminda team of Roger Bajenting and Eric Penalosa overpowered the National Consulting Center (NCC) team of Khaled Samman and Gilbert Dinoso 95-88 at the 8th Contracting Compound, Exit 12 Riyadh.
Pointmaker Jeff Salac directed the play for the Luzviminda Sports Wear getting valuable assist from veteran cager Rey Gelilio, Andrew Bustamante, Aries Palmero and Roel Langit.
The NCC team showcased Bryan Cagas, Dennis Morales, Gilbert Dinoso, Ernie Romano and Mark Fernando as their team’s topscorers.
Tournament organizers Ed Tamayo and Emil Rentar confirmed the participation of eight teams in this 5’8” below category reinforced by 2 cagers of 5’10” height.
The Kruathai Restaurant team of Jeff Berdon led the participating teams of the new entrants followed by the National Consulting Center (NCC), Salem Al-Zahrani Co. (Al-Tazaj Restaurant & Coffee Bonvoir), Flashers, Bennett and the Hapco Warriors with Symex Trane Co. and the Luzviminda Sports Wear teams completing the roster.
