MANAMA, 23 April 2004 — The Bahraini police arrested two Saudis and a Bahraini on Wednesday for possession and distribution of illegal drugs.
The Central Security Police apprehended the first suspect, a 22-year-old Bahraini, with a quantity of hashish near a restaurant in the town of Isa, just outside the Bahraini capital.
Sources said the man, who is an employee of the Ministry of Interior, was wanted in connection with an assault case in which a 28-year-Bahraini sustained nose injuries on Monday.
According to the sources, the attack occurred during an argument about the proceeds of drug sales.
The suspect attacked the other Bahraini with a knife and stole his wallet.
Police discovered another kilogram of hashish and BD1,110 when they searched the suspect’s home.
The man denied ownership of the contraband and claimed that had been keeping it for a 26-year-old Saudi national.
Police traced the Saudi to a mall in Isa and arrested him along with another Saudi national, aged 22.
More narcotics were found on both, sources said.
All three appeared before the public prosecutor and have undergone testing for drug use.
