JEDDAH, 13 May 2004 — In a south Jeddah neighborhood, residents ran into the streets after hearing what they thought to be explosions, Al-Youm reported. The sounds were widely heard after Isha prayer; women took to the streets screaming and men ran out holding their children, some only half-dressed. The sounds, however, were only fireworks at the opening ceremony of a football tournament in the area. The organizers have apologized to the residents of the neighborhood.
