RIYADH, 13 May 2004 — Riyadh Governor Prince Salman ordered that the district where suicide bombings devastated three residential compounds a year ago be renamed “Hay Al-Shuhada” (Martyrs’ District).

The governor’s directive honors the memory of the 34 people, including seven Americans, who were killed and the 200 injured in the suicide bombings carried out by an Al-Qaeda group on the compounds in northeastern Riyadh last year.

Prince Salman also gave instructions that side streets in the area be renamed after the civilians and security personnel who lost their lives in the May 12 blasts.
