JEDDAH, 13 May 2004 — A Shariah Court in Bisha has ruled in favor of three deceased Pakistanis Muhammad Mansha, Khan Badshah and Mahindas Khan who were killed in a road accident in Bisha on May 16, 1998. Following the court’s ruling the heirs of each deceased were paid SR30,000 as diyat (blood money).
The accused, Nasir Jehan Al-Shahrani, a Saudi national, who was responsible for the death of the Pakistanis was killed in the same accident.
The Consulate General of Pakistan had been pursuing the case for six years with Welfare Consul Aziz Uqaili representing the legal heirs of Muhammad Mansha as their attorney.
The case was a complicated one because the driver was also killed in the accident.
The court summoned the heirs and members of Al-Shahrani tribe and ruled that the heirs of each deceased Pakistani be paid SR30,000. The total diyat amounting to SR90,000 was paid to the families of the deceased persons on April 25.
