DAMMAM, 14 May 2004 — In the 8th Kanoo Inter-Division Cricket Tournament Eastern Province organized by Kanoo Sports Club, six teams participated in the tournament on a round robin basis. The top four teams qualified for the knockout to decide winners and runners-up. The participating divisions were Kanoo Combined, Commercial, Shipping, Travel, Maskaba and Exel.

In the games between Maskaba vs. Commercial and Shipping vs. Exel, Commercial and Exel emerged as finalists.

In the finals Kanoo Commercial easily outperformed Exel. Commercial elected to bat and set a target of 147 runs for victory in allotted 20 overs.

Manohar and Ashraf put a solid 70 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. Ashraf made 28 runs before Waheed off Nizam caught him. Soon after Manohar followed him, contributing 42 runs with 5 fours and 1 six.

Yasin hammered 39 runs taking the total of their team to 147 for 8 wickets. Nizam was the only successful bowler with a haul of 4 wickets.

Exel suffered the early loss of Nizam at 16 runs. Abdul Rahman and Faheem took the score to 44 runs for 2nd wicket before Abdul Rahman was run out for 21 runs. Waheed resisted the bowlers for a while blasting 33 runs. After his departure wickets started falling in quick intervals and eventually Exel were all out for 115, losing by 32 runs. Ashraf and Yasin grabbed 2 wickets each and Jameel 3.

Chief guest for the event Tony Carter (deputy general manager-KSAD, SA) and Nigel Parkes (country manager-Exel, SA) distributed prizes and trophies.

The captain for the Commercial team Sayeed Khan said teamwork and dedication led his team to success.

The Man of the Match award was given to Yasin (Commercial) for his knock of 39 runs and 2 wickets. Best Bowler trophy went to Ayub (Combined) for taking 12 wickets in the series. Best Batsman was awarded to Mohammed Nizam (Exel) for scoring 139 runs.

Ashraf was adjudged as the Man of the Series for scoring 139 runs and taking 11 wickets.
