RIYADH, 22 October 2004 — Ambassador Bahnarim Guinomla has announced that the 3rd Philippine Embassy Qur’an Reading Contest will be held on Nov. 4, (21 of Ramadan) at 9 p.m. at the Philippines Embassy grounds.
Guinomla urged fellow Filipino Muslims in the Kingdom, especially those who have the ability in reciting Qur’an, to participate in the annual contest. This competition will highlight the embassy’s celebration for the holy month of Ramadan and is dedicated to all Filipino Muslims in the Kingdom.
The contestants will be from central, western and the eastern regions.
A category for beginners has been created to accommodate converts interested in the contest.
Guinomla started the annual contest in Jeddah, with the cooperation of Arab News, when he was the consul general in the Western Region in 1996.
Last year the competition gave away valuable prizes including, cash, round-trip ticket to the Philippines, and house appliances from some companies and banks.
The elimination round for Riyadh started yesterday.
