KARACHI, 23 October 2004 — Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Altaf Hussain has accepted an invitation to visit India next month for a conference aimed at discussing subjects like sociopolitical importance of the subcontinent and its impact on the world.
An MQM statement issued here last night said the conference will be attended by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, former British Prime Minister John Major, statesman and former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga and Dr. Hans Blix, chief of Unmovic.
Altaf will be the first non-official leader of Pakistan to attend such an important event in India. He will speak on MQM and his own point of view on subjects affecting Pakistan, the region and the world at large.
The day-long meeting, titled “India and the World” is of importance as it will be discussing prospects of India’s partnership with regional states, its neighbors including Pakistan, the geopolitical future of the area, and ways to strengthen relations between Pakistan and India.
