JEDDAH, 23 October 2004 — The hearing of Rania Al-Baz divorce case has been set for Tuesday morning. Rania was severely beaten by her husband Mohammed Al-Fallatah earlier this year.

“I don’t expect him to attend the hearing which means it may be postponed for another four months, leaving me unable to move on with my life,” Rania told Arab News. She said her husband had so far refused to divorce her and wanted her back for the sake of their children. “When he was in jail, he told me that he still loved me, but I don’t want him anymore.”

She claims that after he was released from jail and ten days after he appeared on an MBC talk show, he tried to attack her and she had to call the police.

“If he doesn’t divorce me, I’m willing to return the dowry he gave me (SR15,000)— and take khula. I just want to be free of him.”
