JEDDAH, 27 October 2004 — Saudi Aramco has discovered a new oil field in Abu Sadr, 180 kilometers south of Riyadh and 480 kilometers southwest of Dhahran, according to Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Ali Al-Naimi.

He said tests were conducted on Abu Sadr 1 on Oct. 22 when high quality Arab oil gushed out of the well with a density of 54 degrees and at the rate of 3,000 barrels per day.

Naimi said he expected higher rate of production from the new field.
