Societies with high divorce rates view marital responsibilities as unbearably burdensome. Those who propose to marry think long and hard before making a final decision. This is because they have the notion that married life is a prison where both the man and wife are condemned to hard labor without deliverance. They spend their time looking for a hole in the wall to wriggle out to the free world.
Every couple, however, does not hold that same view. Many believe marital life has certain advantages unavailable from any other source. Experts on marital relations say the union inspires both the bride and groom with a confidence symbolized by the rings they put on each other’s left hands. The man and the woman share a mutual trust, affection and sense of protection. These are the ingredients which prepare for both a strong base to develop their personalities and realize their goals in life. The marriage also provides a springboard to dive into the previously unknown depths of human experience and to explore and enjoy its thrills with the sense of security only the bond of marriage brings.
A husband soon realizes it would be impossible for him to travel that risky road to the future without his female partner and companion who supports him at every new step. He is also thrilled and confident it will be so until the road’s end. A secure marriage allows a couple to chalk out plans 20 or 30 years down that road to achieve their goals in life. A solid marriage relieves the stress generated by life’s challenges simply because neither man nor woman is facing them alone.
A human being is capable of doing whatever he or she wants to do as long as he or she is confident that family and home are well protected and secure. Although they have to devote more time and attention to issues that come along with married life, it provides them with opportunities to further strengthen their bonds to one another.
The marriage must be a success if the fruits of its tree are to be reaped because it makes a man and woman follow their hearts in everything that concerns their lives and brings them fulfillment, success and satisfaction — particularly with healthy, successful children.
The prison walls will seem thick and unscalable only if the marriage is a failure. Conjugal bliss will never be a distant dream if the couple’s intentions are sincere, and they take a vow to make their lives a success.
A son known for close attachment to his mother since childhood is the most affectionate and romantic husband, according to a recent study conducted in Washington, D.C. The study found that a man’s strong bonds with his mother and constant attachment to her better enables him to make his wife happy and their marriage a success.
In another study, conducted at the University of Virginia, researchers noted a strong association between a man’s past attachment to his mother and the degree of happiness his wife felt in living with him. In other words, the study confirmed the idea that a son with strong attachment to his mother would be very fond of his wife as well. The study attributed this phenomena to the fact that in the course of uninterrupted contact with his mother, a man learns how to positively interact with women and maintain warm relations with the opposite sex. Researchers also noted male infants learn about the opposite sex by observing mother’s ways, nature and conduct.
From the statements of participating wives regarding the nature of their relationships with their husbands and their conduct, the study concluded that men attached to their mothers were more capable of emotionally stable relations with their partners and displayed more kindness and consideration to their partners. They also were more romantic. Sons with a loving and sympathetic mothers were very keen to marry when they grew up.
Researchers of the American Society for Psychological Sciences also support this view. A mother’s warm emotions and conduct toward her son has considerable influence on his attitude toward women. If a mother is more affectionate and kind to her son, the same emotions are carried by the son to his wife . If the mother is harsh and unrelenting, her son is afraid to enter in a steady emotional relationship with a woman when he grows up. If such a man decides to marry, he looks for a woman totally different from his mother so that his unpleasant experiences won’t be repeated.
