JEDDAH, 3 November 2004 — Four matches were contested in the King Fahd Cup Soccer Tournament on Monday with Al-Shabab securing the most important victory of the day. Shabab pulled Al-Nasr down a peg with a 2-0 victory in the Riyadh derby that lifted them back to the top spot in the league.
Nasr, after a brief flirtation with the top spot, were back in the second position following this defeat. The other winners of the day were Al-Ahli in Jeddah and Al-Ansar in Madinah while Al-Qadisiyah and Al-Ittifaq drew goalless in the all-Dammam clash. Ittifaq remained 11th with 8 points and Qadisiyah are 7th with 13 points.
At the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium, Ahli routed Al-Taie of Hail 3-0. Ahli scored in the 23rd and 30th minute through Waleed Abdrabu and Naif Al-Ghadi to take a 2-0 edge by the first half. They added the third in the 65th minute with Naif finishing up with a brace of goals by converting the penalty award. The referee sent out three Taie players Faisal Al-Jahdali, Kulibali and Adel Al-Onaizi. And Ahli had the chance of running up the numbers against a depleted side. But Ahli failed to cash in.
They moved to third place with 15 points and Taie dropped to sixth place with 13 points.
In Riyadh, at Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Stadium, Shabab and Nasr were involved in a top table clash that could eventually prove decisive in this close race. Shabab won the day to take over the first place following a 2-0 victory with international player Atram scoring in the 5th and 80th minutes. Shabab now have 20 points while Nasr are second with 18 points.
In Madinah, Al-Ansar defeated Ohod 3-1. Costa scored two goals for Al-Ansar, the first in the 18th and the third in the 47th minute. The second Ansar strike came through Duophe in the 44th minute. Ohod’s goal came in the 55th minute through Hosa. The loss left Ohod in last spot with 5 points and Al-Ansar moved to 8th place with 12 points.
