RIYADH, 6 November 2004 — Qasim Governor Prince Faisal ibn Bandar yesterday visited the three police officers who were injured while raiding a cyber café in Buraidah on Thursday morning.
The officers were injured when a suspect opened fire on them as they approached him after he entered an Internet café.
The injured officers were: Private Alhumaidi Subail Al-Harbi from the Qasim Police Department, and Sgt. Khaled Muhammad Al-Mutairi and Private Ali Furaih Al-Harbi, both from the Special Forces Unit. Prince Faisal conveyed the greetings of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd to the men and commended them for their bravery in carrying out their national duty.
The prince said that citizens’ cooperation is essential in such security matters, adding that good cooperation between citizens and police has led to the discovery of many terrorist hide-outs and the arrest of many terror suspects before they could carry out their destructive plans.
Such cooperation is a message to anyone who tries to destabilize the country and its safety and security, he added.
Prince Faisal told the officers that their action proves that security officers are capable of stopping the deviant groups wherever they are and getting to them before they carry out their plans.
Security forces acted swiftly as they managed to close all roads leading to the street in a densely populated area where the Internet café was located. “Orbit Internet Café” was located on King Khaled Street opposite Panda supermarket.
Police also managed to free innocent people who were inside the Internet café. The injured officers were transferred to King Fahd Specialist Hospital for treatment.
A source told Arab News that the main suspect arrested by police was Nasir Al-Bishri. The suspect is currently being interrogated by police. He lives in Al-Nakei district in Buraidah. Police confiscated his home computer for security reasons, the source added.
Security forces have been combing several areas of Buraidah looking for terror hide-outs and wanted suspects. Districts such as Al-Hilal, Al-Khaleej, and Al-Iskan, have been among the areas searched.
