NEW DELHI, 10 November 2004 — United Progressive Alliance minister of state for food and civil supplies and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader, Mohammed Taslimuddin is embroiled in a fresh controversy as a city court in Patna has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him on the charge of committing a fraud after a check issued by him for purchase of a vehicle was dishonored.
First class judicial magistrate, Patna, Sudhir Kumar Sinha had on Oct. 5 issued the warrant against Taslimuddin on a complaint by a dealer of Mahindra and Mahindra in Patna charging the minister with committing a fraud as a check for 300,000 rupees drawn in favor of the company for purchase of a vehicle five years ago was dishonored.
The company’s lawyer Nagendra Kumar said the court had asked the superintendent of police of Araria to execute the arrest warrant and fix Jan. 20, 2005 as the next date of hearing the case.
Meanwhile, the BJP demanded his dismissal from the government accusing him of being a “habitual offender”.
