RIYADH, 13 November 2004 — Security forces yesterday arrested five suspected terrorists in two operations in Riyadh and Zulfi and seized weapons including machine guns and live ammunition.
Brig. Mansour Al-Turki, spokesman of the Interior Ministry, said the suspects belonged to the Al-Qaeda group that carried out a spate of terrorist attacks in the Kingdom. “They opened fire at security officers haphazardly but nobody was hurt,” the spokesman said. Three of the suspects were held in Zulfi while the others were detained in Riyadh.
The arrests come after the Interior Ministry announced Thursday of the government’s decision to release all the six suspects who turned themselves in to authorities during an amnesty declared by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd.
