LOS ANGELES, 16 November 2004 — Sharpshooter Jerry Stackhouse had a strange way of showing love for his old club — he shot them down.
Stackhouse scored 28 points, including three timely 3-pointers in the closing minutes, sparking the visiting Dallas Mavericks past the Washington Wizards, 122-113 on Sunday, for their third consecutive victory.
Stackhouse was dealt to Dallas in the off-season, along with Christian Laettner and rookie Devin Harris for Antawn Jamison, but harbors no resentment over the trade.
German juggernaut Dirk Nowitzki had a game-high 32 points and 13 rebounds for Dallas, (7-1), which improved to 3-1 on its road trip. “He was on fire and making shots from everywhere,” said Nowitzki of Stackhouse, who poured in 28 points off the bench in Saturday night’s 94-78 won over New Jersey. With Dallas clinging to a one-point advantage, Stackhouse buried a 3-pointer with 4:24 remaining, pushing the lead to 105-101. He added another from behind the arc, 98 seconds later as the gap widened to 111-104. Jamison and Larry Hughes each scored 23 points in Washington’s fourth loss in the last five games.
Heat 112 Bucks 110 (2 OT): Keyon Dooling hit a layup with 1.4 seconds to go in the first overtime, and the hosts Heat scored the first seven points of the second overtime session to snap the Bucks’ three-game winning streak.
Shaquille O’Neal led Miami with 19 points and 18 rebounds before fouling out. Eddie Jones added 19 points as well, and Rasual Butler added 17, including a 3-pointer with 2:30 remaining to cap the decisive seven-point run in the second five-minute session.
Keith Van Horn collected 26 points and 15 rebounds but his potential game-winning 3-pointer fell short at the final buzzer, ending Milwaukee’s three-game winning streak. Michael Redd netted 21 points and Maurice Williams finished with 18 and 10 assists.
76ers 96 Magic 87: Allen Iverson had 29 points and 12 assists, leading the host 76ers to their third consecutive victory - all at home — with their best defensive effort of the season. Grant Hill scored 18 points, Pat Garrity added 14 and No. 1 draft pick Dwight Howard grabbed 14 rebounds for icy Orlando, which shot just 32 percent form the field.
Sonics 118 Grizzlies 113: Ray Allen and Antonio Daniels each scored season-high with 34 points and 28 respectively, helping the Sonics overcome a 21-point deficit en route to their sixth straight victory. Pau Gasol led Memphis with 25 points.
Kings 101 Nuggets 89: Brad Miller scored 11 of his season-high 26 points in the third quarter, sparking the host Kings to their 16th consecutive victory over the Nuggets at Arco Arena. Peja Stojakovic netted 22 points and Mike Bibby added 20 for Sacramento, which has not lost at home to Denver since January 1997.
