JEDDAH, 17 November 2004 — Civil defense forces rescued a teenage girl in Majmaa from possible death by burning. She started a fire to burn her academic certificates as well as a termination letter from the College of Education and the fire spread. According to Al-Eqtisadiah, a sister publication of Arab News, the girl set the documents on fire after locking herself inside a room in a relative’s house. “The fire spread to the furniture in the room. The girl then realized the danger of the situation and tried to put out the fire but she failed,” a relative of the girl said. The girl denied suggestions that she was trying to commit suicide.
