RAMALLAH, 17 November 2004 — The Palestinian Authority is considering creating a museum commemorating Yasser Arafat who died last week in a Paris hospital, the Israeli Itim news agency reported yesterday.
Museum exhibits will include the olive military uniform Arafat had worn during his political career, as well as his trademark keffiyeh headdress with the words “together to Jerusalem” emblazoned on it.
Other displays will feature photographs of the Palestinian leader since his birth in 1929, as well as his office equipment and all official documents he had signed with Israel.
Work on the museum is slated to follow Palestinian national elections due to take place Jan. 9. Arafat fathered the Palestinian cause and was the symbol of their quest for statehood. His death was announced last Thursday in a French military hospital outside Paris, where he had been treated of a mystery illness.
