RIYADH, 23 November 2004 — Locust swarms that have plagued North Africa have reached the Kingdom’s border, Agriculture Ministry officials said yesterday. Swarms have been spotted along the Wadi Gilla border area with Jordan, the officials said. Two teams have been sent to counter the infestation. This year’s locust invasion is among the worst in recent memory, with the insects moving east across North Africa into Egypt and southern Israel before reaching the Saudi border.
