JEDDAH, 27 November 2004 — Following up on earlier successes, Effat College is inviting academic and business women to a series of faculty lectures on a varierty of topics.
The Effat College Faculty Lecture Series consists of 10 lectures starting Nov. 29 continuing through June 2005. “We are building upon the success of the series in 2002/2003,” said Kerry Laufer, assistant to the dean for Institutional Development and Quality control. “During the course of that year, we had lecturers and professors present on a varied number of issues. These included information technology, linguistics and psychology. We are hoping to expand the attendance this year to allow all interested members of the community to attend.”
There is a benefit to the community as well as the college. “The lectures are an occasion for our staff to develop, test out and present their research to their peers.” Laufer said.
The first lecture, titled “Uvularization Harmony in Jaddawi Coloquial Arabic,” will be presented by Dr. Kimary Shahin, assistant professor of the college’s Department of English Language and Translation. The lectures are scheduled for afternoons at the faculty residences of Effat College Campus.
