ABU DHABI, 1 December 2004 — Abu Dhabi Gas Industries (Gasco) said yesterday it had awarded the US company Bechtel a $1.458 billion contract to build and put in commission a giant gas plant in the United Arab Emirates.
A statement said the project would treat 1.3 billion cubic feet (36.8 million cubic meters) of natural gas per day to produce some 125,000 barrels of condensate and 12,000 tons of liquefied natural gas.
The project, named Onshore Gas Development Phase III (OGD-III), will be managed by Bechtel’s London office and is to be completed within three years and four months.
Abu Dhabi is one of the seven members of the United Arab Emirates. Besides wanting to meet its own natural gas needs through exploiting its reserves, it also wants to import natural gas from neighbors such as Qatar, Oman and Iran.
