RIYADH, 6 December 2004 — A report on linking Saudi Arabia with other GCC member states through a railway line will be presented to the GCC summit, which is scheduled to open in Manama on Dec. 20, Transport Minister Dr. Jabarah Al-Seraisry said.
Speaking to reporters after signing contracts worth SR948.6 million with Saudi companies to construct the Yanbu-Sharma two-way road and Khamis Mushait-Najran two-way road, he said the technical committee has already prepared the report.
Seraisry said the ministry would give priority to completing the remaining portion of the Riyadh ring road in the next budget. He said Yanbu-Sharma road, which passes by Amlaj, Alwajh and Dhuba, would have a length of 423.575 kilometers.
The second two-way road linking Khamis Mushait with the southern border region of Najran will be162.7-km long, he pointed out.
The companies which won the contracts were: Trans-Saudi Arabia for Trade Industry and Contracts, Omar ibn Ateq Est., Al-Harbi Trading & Contracting Co., Peninsula for Trading & Contracting, and Ibn Jarallah Est.
