JEDDAH, 8 December 2004 — Two Pakistanis who sustained bullet wounds in Monday’s terrorist attack on the US Consulate here were in stable condition and recovering at Soliman Fakeeh Hospital.
Dr. Shoaib Akbar, community welfare attache at the Consulate General of Pakistan in Jeddah, identified the two as Asad Ahmad, son of Muhammad Umar, who is from North Nazimabad, Karachi, and Jamshedul Islam, son of Islamuddin, from Cavalry Ground, Lahore. Both are employees of the US Consulate.
Dr. Shoaib visited the injured at the hospital yesterday with other consulate staff and praised the efforts of the doctors there.
Jamshedul Islam, who sustained minor injuries on his arm, will probably be released in a day or two. Asad, who was injured in the neck, is under observation. Doctors are hopeful of his early release.
“Families of the injured have already been informed and the consulate is updating them with the latest information,” said Dr. Shoaib.
Consulate sources said there was no Pakistani among the dead in Monday’s brazen attack on the US Consulate. Saudi Press Agency earlier said a Pakistani was among five consulate employees who were killed in the three-hour siege that left at least nine dead, including four attackers.
