RIYADH, 9 December 2004 — Three charitable organizations received nearly SR1 million in donations to promote their activities in the Kingdom. The donations were given by an American firm operating in the Kingdom for the cause of the gifted children, the handicapped and eradication of poverty in the Kingdom.
Saudi Arabian Texaco Inc., a subsidiary of ChevronTexaco, handed over checks for SR600,000 to the King Abdul Aziz and His Companions Foundation for the Gifted and SR188,000 each to the Kingdom’s Anti-Poverty Fund and to the Disabled Children’s Association at their respective offices recently.
On behalf of Saudi Arabian Texaco Inc., its Public Relations Officer Awwad Ahmad Al-Wasem presented the checks to Director General of the King Abdul Aziz and His Companions Foundation for the Gifted Dr. Hamad Al-Baadi; Director-General of the Anti-Poverty Fund Abdullah ibn Rashid Al-Abdul Lateef, and to Secretary-General of the Disabled Children’s Association Awad Abdullah Al-Ghamdi.
“We are particularly gratified to make this contribution in the light of ChevronTexaco’s special relationship with the Kingdom, which extends back to more than six decades,” Al-Wasem told Arab News adding that as a responsible corporate citizen, Chevron Texaco is committed to contributing to uplifting social institutions and local communities wherever it does business.
During Ramadan, the company donated 750 food baskets to Al-Birr Society in Khafji for distribution among the needy in the Eastern Province.
Al-Wasem said his company has given these donations not only in appreciation of the services rendered by the charitable organizations but also to ensure its participation in their constructive efforts toward national development. He pointed out that the King Abdul Aziz and His Companions Foundation for the Gifted is dedicated to develop skills and talents of gifted Saudi citizens while the Disabled Children’s Association carries out several programs and researches on physically handicapped children through the network of its branches spread throughout the Kingdom.
He said his company is happy to participate in the Anti-Poverty Fund initiated by Crown Prince Abdullah, which provides shelter for poor families and a wide range of vocational training programs for the Saudi youth.
