KARACHI, 10 May 2005 — Two bomb explosions hit a railway track in Pakistan’s southern Sindh province yesterday, damaging the track, police and railway officials said.
“More than a foot-long piece of track has been blown up,” a railway official said, adding that no casualties were reported.
He said the explosive devices planted beneath the track went off around 6.30 a.m. local time in Kashmore Colony railway station, about 600 km north of Karachi on the border with southwestern Balochistan province, senior railway police officer Shafi Muhammad Mughal said.
No one has claimed responsibility of the blasts. Meanwhile, police yesterday arrested four militants accused of killing as many as 23 Shiites in two separate attacks in southern Pakistan two years ago, an official said.
The men, from the outlawed Lashkar-e-Jhangvi Sunni group, were captured in a raid on their hideout here, said Afzal Majid, a police official.
He said the suspects were involved in attacks in 2003 on a mosque and on a bus carrying Shiite employees of Pakistan’s space agency. Majid gave no other details.
