DHAKA, 12 May 2005 — US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs Christina Rocca was expected yesterday here for discussions on bilateral ties and regional issues, sources said.
Rocca was scheduled to hold talks today with Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Morshed Khan and other senior government officials. She also was likely to call on Prime Minister Khaleda Zia before leaving tomorrow.
Meanwhile, five US lawmakers assured Dhaka of their support in getting duty-free access of its textiles and other products to US market. The assurances came when Finance and Planning Minister Saifur Rahman met with them Tuesday. Saif met Sen. John Sununu and Congressmen Joseph Crowley, Barney Frank, Gary Ackerman and Jim Mcdermott.
