JEDDAH, 12 May 2005 — Three prominent Saudi women including Al-Jowhara Muhammad Al-Anqari, president of Al-Iman Charitable Society, as well as 20 businessmen and government officials will be honored by the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry at a colorful function at the JCCI here Saturday.
The dignitaries to be honored include State Minister and former JCCI Chairman Abdullah Zainal, well-known businessman Muhammad Abdul Latif Jameel, Amr Al-Dabbagh, governor of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority, Jeddah Mayor Adel Faqeeh and former mayor Abdullah Al-Muallami.
“The 23 men and women are honored for their tremendous contributions toward social and public services and their important role in charitable activities in addition to their efforts for promoting business,” said Dr. Ghassan Suleiman, chairman of the chamber.
Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed will officiate the ceremony, which will also honor Suad Al-Husseini Al-Juffali, secretary of Al-Aun Center for Supporting the Handicapped, and Sultana Alireza, director general of Jeddah Institute for Speech & Hearing(JISH). “We intend to make this an annual event in order to honor more people for their commendable services,” Suleiman said.
Suleiman commended Muallami for his role in improving municipal services, solving traffic jams and boosting urban development in the city. He described businessman Jameel as a role model and said, “We’re proud of people like him.” Jameel has played a vital role in numerous community services, especially in the areas of fighting unemployment and supporting small businesses.
The JCCI chief also noted the charitable activities of the three women. Al-Anqari’s Al-Iman society has been taking care of women suffering from breast cancer while Al-Juffali and Alireza have been supporting children of special needs including the handicapped.
Other prominent personalities to be honored at Saturday’s function are: Ismail Abudawood, Abdul Rauf Abu Zinada, Abdul Aziz Al-Suleiman, Ibrahim Kurdi, Sami Attar, Abdul Qader Al-Fadel, Abdullateef Banajah, Abdul Aziz Al-Nuwaiser, Ali Basamh, Hisham Jamjoom, Abdullah Silsilah, Abdul Rahman Bin Mahfouz, Dr. Abdullah Dahlan and Dr. Majed Al-Qassabi.
