KARACHI, Pakistan, 14 May 2005 — Pakistan cricket authorities said yesterday they would host India early next year for three Tests and five one-dayers before staging the Asia Cup.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Shaharyar Khan said India would tour from Jan. 2, with the Asia Cup staged from Feb. 14 to 26.
Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Oman and UAE are scheduled to play in the Asia Cup. Its program was finalized after a meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) executive committee in Kuala Lumpur earlier this week. Pakistan, India and Oman are in Group A, with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and UAE in Group B. It is the first time Pakistan have hosted the event since its inception in 1984. Pakistan are also due to host England for three Tests and five one-dayers at the end of the year.
Haynes on Shortlist for India Job
In New Delhi, former West Indies batsman Desmond Haynes will be among four candidates to be interviewed to succeed New Zealand’s John Wright as India coach, the national cricket board said yesterday.
The 49-year-old Haynes, former Australia captain Greg Chappell, his compatriot Tom Moody and ex-India batsman Mohinder Amarnath have been asked to appear before a six-member interview panel in New Delhi on May 19, the board said in a statement.
Former India batsman Sandeep Patil and ex-England off-spinner John Emburey were also approached by the Indian board but have declined, it said.
Ranatunga Returns to Cricket
In Colombo, former Sri Lankan captain Arjuna Ranatunga yesterday agreed to represent his country on a key International Cricket Council (ICC) committee, ending a self-imposed five-year exile from the game.
