OAKLAND, 16 May 2005 — Tino Martinez, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada all homered as the red-hot New York Yankees rolled to their seventh straight win with a 15-6 rout of the Athletics on Saturday in American League action in Oakland.

The Yankees pounded Oakland pitchers for 19 hits, led by Hideki Matsui who matched his career-high going 4-for-5 at the plate.

Martinez, who has homered in six of seven games, had three hits and five RBIs while Jeter and Posada each drove in three runs and Rodriguez contributed a pair of RBIs.

Rodriguez’s third inning homer to deep right was his league leading 12th of the season.

Yankee starter Kevin Brown (2-4) allowed five runs - three earned - on eight hits in six innings of work.

Athletics starter Joe Blanton (0-4) lasted just 2-1/3 innings as New York battered the rookie right-hander nine runs on seven hits.

In Seattle, Trot Nixon crushed a seventh inning grand slam as the Boston Red Sox rallied to down the sinking Mariners 6-3. Nixon’s eighth career grand slam keyed a five-run seventh as the Red Sox erased a 3-1 deficit.

In Minneapolis, Kenny Rogers pitched a six-hit shutout as the Texas Rangers blanked the Twins 5-0. Rogers (4-2) had two strikeouts and did not issue a walk on his way to collecting his fourth consecutive win and stretching his streak to 30 innings. The streak is the longest in the major leagues this season. After four scoreless innings, the 40-year-old left-hander finally got some support in the fifth when the Rangers batters finally came to life with a four-run burst led by Sandy Alomar’s two-run RBI single.

In Detroit, Brandon Inge had a two-run homer and Craig Monroe added a solo blast powering the Tigers to 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels giving them a split of their doubleheader. Tiger’s starter Mike Maroth (4-2) claimed the win allowing two runs on seven hits in 6-2/3 innings of work. Ugueth Urbina worked a prefect ninth to clinch the win and collect his fourth save of the season. In the first game of the twin bill, Jeff DaVanon went 3-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI as the Angels rallied with two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to score a 4-2 win over the Tigers.

In Kansas City, Emil Brown’s two-run double was the key hit in a three-run eighth inning as the Royals rallied for a 6-5 victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Runelvys Hernandez (2-5) delivered eight strong innings allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out four to pick up the win.

In Chicago, B.J. Surhoff and Jay Gibbons homered and Brian Roberts had three doubles as the Baltimore Orioles unleashed a 15-hit attack on the way to a 9-6 victory over the White Sox.
