PARIS, 18 May 2005 — The European PGA golf tour is to make a further incursion into the Gulf region by staging its Senior Tour Championship in Bahrain in November.

The season-ending tournament will be held at the island’s Riffa Golf Club from Nov. 10-12 with Scotland’s John Chillas the defending champion.

The event sees the leading 51 professionals on the Seniors Tour Order of Merit battling it out for a share of the $450,000 prize fund and the John Jacobs Trophy.

“This event will help us in our on-going strategy of growing the popularity of golf in the Kingdom of Bahrain,” said Riffa Golf Club general manager Michael Braidwood.

The main European PGA tour already sanctions long established tournaments in the Gulf — the Dubai Desert Classic and the Qatar Masters.
