KUWAIT CITY, 23 May 2005 — Kuwait’s prime minister gave assurances to his countrymen Sunday about the health of Emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah who is undergoing medical check-ups in the United States, the KUNA news agency reported.
“I want to reassure citizens that the emir is in good health and, God willing, he will return home soon,” Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah said after chairing the Cabinet’s weekly session. Sheikh Sabah said he had telephoned the 76-year-old emir in Cleveland, Ohio, on Saturday.
Sheikh Jaber left for the United States Wednesday for what was officially described as “scheduled” medical check-ups. No details on the nature of the tests were released.
Sheikh Jaber, who has ruled Kuwait for 27 years, suffered a brain hemorrhage in September 2001 and spent four months recovering in Britain.
Last August, he spent about 10 days undergoing medical examinations at a New York hospital.
