Logitech has brought out two affordable cordless controllers for console gaming that feature battery life of up to 300 hours on two AA batteries. The Logitech Cordless Precision Controller for PlayStation2 and the Logitech Cordless Attack Controller for the Xbox video game system from Microsoft both feature new low-power chipsets and an intelligent sleep mode — which will make changing batteries a rarity.
Logitech’s proprietary 2.4GHz technology gives the controllers 30 feet of range without interference or lag. The Logitech Cordless Precision Controller is blue to match the color of the PlayStation 2; the Logitech Cordless Attack Controller for Xbox is green. The Logitech Cordless Precision Controller for PlayStation 2 and the Logitech Cordless Attack Controller for Xbox will be available in late August for a street price of $29.99 and $39.99 respectively.
Logitech is also introducing a new force feedback gaming wheel, the Logitech Driving Force EX Wheel. The wheel comes with two interface plugs: The standard PlayStation 2 controller plug, ensuring the wheel will work with any PlayStation 2 game; and a USB plug that allows the Logitech Driving Force EX wheel to deliver realistic force feedback.
While most gaming wheels on the market are molded with front and back halves that are later pieced together, Logitech’s wheel is one sturdy part. Without any seams or edges to give false vibration, the feeling of force feedback is even more realistic. The Driving Force EX Wheel will be available online and at retailers in September, for a retail price of $79.99.
