JEDDAH, 24 May 2005 — International cricket stars from India and Pakistan will be seen in action for the first time in Saudi Arabia.
A series of three day-and-night matches will be played between India XI and Pakistan XI for the Saudi Gold Cup 2005. Matches will be played in Riyadh on June 23 and in Jeddah on June 24 and 26.
“Tickets are priced reasonably for the matches between the teams who are coming on invitation,” said Fahad Ahmed Khaja of Al-Jawad Group, which is organizing the matches.
“A live TV telecast” is also being arranged for the matches, he said, adding that the organizers could be contacted by prospective sponsors.
Saudi Research & Publishing Co. and its publications — Arab News and Malayalam News — are media sponsors of the event.
Tickets for the Jeddah matches are: SR100 for silver pass, SR300 for golden pass, and SR500 for diamond pass, which will entitle holders to be invited for a special dinner with players. “The category of passes for the Riyadh match will be different and announced in due course,” Khaja said.
Cricket fans are already excited over the prospects of watching their stars in this part of the world. “I’ve been looking forward to such an event here,” said a Saudi sports journalist.
