JEDDAH, 25 May 2005 — The Jeddah municipality has decided to open Heraa Street to two-way traffic once again. It was a two-way street until about two years ago when it was made one-way.
Ahmad Al-Ghamdi, deputy director of public relations at the municipality, said the project would be completed within a month. He said the municipality had decided to make the change after receiving a number of complaints from businessmen and residents.
The decision is good news for businessmen with shops on both sides of the street.
Abdullah Al-Qahtani, a shop owner, said he had lost 50 percent of his customers when the municipality introduced one-way traffic on the street about two years ago.
Saleh Al-Harbi, a resident of the area, said the one-way traffic had caused many accidents. “We see a number of road accidents almost every day,” he pointed out.
