JEDDAH, 25 May 2005 — The stage has been set for the Indo-Pak Mushaira being organized by Khak-e-Taiba Trust at the Jeddah Le Meridien at 8 p.m. on Thursday.
According to Afsar Faheem, the convernor of the event, 11 well-known poets from the subcontinent are expected to present their compositions.
The mushaira has generated huge enthusiasm among Urdu poetry lovers in Jeddah, Faheem said. “Keeping in view the growing people-to-people ties between the two countries, the Indo-Pak mushaira comes at a right time... It will further cement ties between the peace-loving people of the two countries,” said Faheem.
Five poets from India have already arrived in Jeddah. They are: Qaisarul Jafri, Munawwar Rana, Majid Deobandi, Rais Ansari and Sikander Hyat Gadbad. Faheem said three poets from Pakistan Tariq Sabzwari, Professor Sehar Ansari and Najma Khan are expected to arrive today.
Three other poets from India: Johar Kanpuri, Shabeena Adeeb and Mukhtar Yusufi are arriving tomorrow morning, said Siadath Ali Khan.
