BOMBAY, 28 May 2005 — Chinese military chief Gen. Liang Guanglie visited the Southern Command Headquarters of the Indian Army here yesterday in yet another step to boost confidence between the two nations. The General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Command Lt. Gen. B. S. Takhar welcomed the Chinese general and his accompanying 11-member delegation.
Takhar, while lauding the visit, said that such visits would hasten the process of better understanding between the two countries in economics, politics and culture.
Takhar also said that the two nations are strengthening military cooperation by holding joint exercises. Takhar later presented a memento to the Chinese general at a brief ceremony. Gen. Liang visit was part of his six-day tour of India. The focus of the Chinese general’s visit to Pune was on the premier defense training academies — the College of Military Engineering and the National Defense Academy (NDA).
