KUWAIT, 30 May 2005 — Finnish telecoms gear giant Nokia Corp. yesterday signed a 100-million-euro deal with Wataniya Telecom to upgrade the network of the Kuwaiti mobile phone provider, company officials said. “Wataniya Telecom ... yesterday announced that it has signed with Nokia for the provision of advanced technologies that will enhance the company’s network,” the company, also called National Mobile Telecommunications Co, said in a statement. Harri Koponen, the new Finnish general manager and CEO of Wataniya Telecom, told a news conference in Kuwait City that the deal was valued at 100 million euros ($125.8 million) in its initial phase.
